GVS has developed customized micro development plan to address the village needs, based on the resources available in the village. It all started with preparation of comprehensive profile of the village in health, education, economic, women empowerment, and nutrition, with the help of social activists and subject experts. All programs are designed to uplift the villages living under below poverty line (BPL).
Education
So many of school drop-outs are from rural villages. Most common cause for remaining out of school was due to house hold work, taking care of siblings and working to improve family. The following activities are undertaken by GVS to enhance the education levels in rural villages of Srikakulam dist.
Study Centers (Vidyarthi Vikasa Kendram)
Organizing study hours by trained local volunteers. Grameena Vikas Sangham (GVS) is organizing 12 study centers in 7 villages of Kotturu and Bhamini Mandalas of Srikakulam district for High school (5) and Elementary school students (7) separately. 20 volunteers have been working in these study centers. Students have learnt subject knowledge (academics), moral values, personal hygiene and discipline. Besides that, they are participating in various competitions like Rangoli, games, songs and quizzes conducted annually, on the eve of Makara sankranthi.
GVS also conducts monthly parent meetings. Parents are very much satisfied and happy with the training provided by GVS .Because; their wards stopped watching TV serials hours together, improved their health and are trying to shape their character and behavior
Total Villages: 7 Study Centers: 12
Total Students: 970 Volunteers: 20

GVS is providing nutritious food every day to children and pregnant women and mothers in the Kadumu village in the form of milk and other proteins ingredients like ground nuts, eggs, fruits etc. This entire activity is sponsored by MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation, AP.
Nutritious food (150g milk + banana/groundnut seeds & jaggery balls) is supplied to180 students and as a result, the health of the students improved.
Health checkups
Medical camps are planned every year exclusive for children and villagers. It is planned to set-up a rural health center. A massive health camp was organized in Kadumu village where in 6 doctors from Vivekananda Medical Trust, Visakhapatnam examined the villagers.150 Children and 300 adults have been examined and treated in the free medical camp.

Rs.22, 000/- has been saved till date. The bank runs during evening times and the organizing children themselves are maintaining records and ledgers very effectively.
Training and Empowerment
Organic farming
GVS has identified local farmers who are willing to cultivate using organic methods, starting June of 2010 this project and implemented on an experimental basis in 6 acres. It is planned that we train the local youth in manufacturing vermi compost and other non-pesticides which are required for cultivation there by generating local employment.
Non-Pesticide Management
From the year 2008 onwards the formers have been motivated to minimize the usage of chemical poisonous pesticides and instead they are encouraged to use certain herbal and natural solutions including gomutra as pesticides. 120 farmers have been successfully practising these techniques.
Training for Women
GVS plans to conduct various trainings for women to make themselves sustained various trainings like manufacturing of house hold items like soaps, candles, papads etc., and training in tailoring techniques are parts of this activity.
Linking Non-Residents to village
Every year GVS organize meetings in cities to bring together all the non-residents and discuss on village developmental activities and planned effort is made to link them back to the village. The non-residents meet annually in Hyderabad to discuss their village development activities. They also donate their one day salary/wages for the village development fund. The exemplary practice is followed for the last 3 years. All Non-residents meet in their respective villages once in an year for Sankranthi.
